Meet Harper Grohl, making her mark in the drumming world, following in her famous father’s footsteps with the Foo Fighters. Even if you’re not a die-hard Foo Fighters fan, you probably know that Dave Grohl, before starting the band, was the drummer for Kurt Cobain’s legendary group, Nirvana.
After Cobain’s tragic passing in 1994, Grohl went solo, creating the Foo Fighters. The next year, he released his first album, called simply “Foo Fighters.” What’s cool is that Grohl not only sang but also played all the instruments on the album, except for one song.
The solo project did well, so Grohl got some bandmates together, and the rest is history. The Foo Fighters have rocked out with ten studio albums, five live albums, and a bunch of singles. They’ve hit number one worldwide seven times, winning 15 Grammys, 5 Brit Awards, and 3 NME Awards along the way.
In 2003, Grohl married his second wife, Jordyn Bloom, and they had three daughters: Violet Maye in 2006, Harper Willow in 2009, and Ophelia Saint in 2014. It seems musical talent runs in the family, with both Violet and Harper showing a love for music like their rockstar dad.
Violet has already sung on stage with the Foo Fighters, showing off her talent. And in a cute video, Harper takes the spotlight, showing off her drumming skills. Dad and daughter played together at Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival in June 2017, with Harper rocking it out on the drums.
The heartwarming story of Harper’s musical journey unfolds as Grohl tells how she wanted to learn to play. He proudly shares the moment he asked Harper if she wanted to perform in front of a huge crowd in Iceland. Her brave “Yes” got cheers from the whole band, with drummer Taylor Hawkins giving up his seat for Harper.
Harper kicked off her performance with Queen’s classic “We Will Rock You,” the first song she learned to play. The rest of the band joined in, with Hawkins singing since he gave up drumming for Harper. Harper’s confident and flawless performance shows off her talent at such a young age, and you can see the joy on her face as she rocks out with her dad and the band.
The video isn’t just about Harper’s musical skills but also about the pride and happiness Dave Grohl feels watching his daughter follow in his footsteps. It’s a heartwarming moment, showing the musical talent that runs in the Grohl family. And for more musical magic, you can catch Harper and her sister Violet performing with their dad at the Notes and Words concert in 2018, supporting San Francisco’s UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. With Harper on drums and Violet singing, they add an extra special touch to the already awesome Foo Fighters lineup.
