Television talent shows often follow a formula, and while many contestants are talented, few performances stand out. However, Putri Ariani’s audition on America’s Got Talent on June 6, 2023, was exceptional.

Putri, 17, made her first trip to the US for AGT, and her voice captivated everyone. Her audition moved many to tears and was hailed as one of the best the show has seen. Simon Cowell even requested an encore, during which Putri dedicated Elton John’s “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” to him. The biggest surprise came when Putri revealed she had written her first song, which sounded like a classic.

Putri’s original song, “Tak Mampu Lupa,” an Indonesian interpretation of a Mandarin song, has garnered 12 million views on YouTube in less than a year. She gained national attention after winning Indonesia’s Got Talent in 2014 at age 8, and was a finalist on The Voice Kids Indonesia in 2016. In 2018, she sang “Song Of Victory” at the Asian Para Games opening ceremony. She regularly releases singles and live performances on her YouTube channel and features on the Go Music Group channel.

Her AGT audition has made her an early favorite to win. The US Sun highlighted this with a headline on June 9, 2023: “AGT fans are convinced contestants with jaw-dropping talent will ‘definitely’ win despite being only 2 weeks into season.”

Before singing on AGT, Putri said: “My biggest challenge is people look at me just as a blind person, not as a musician. But when I’m singing, I feel like I’m a superstar.”
