The much-awaited new single from Guns N’ Roses, “The General,” was released on 9th December after making its live debut in Los Angeles around a month ago.
On November 2, the band performed a live version of “The General” at the Hollywood Bowl. It’s a new song that they haven’t performed before, according to Axl Rose, who said it “could be very interesting.” The song was recorded during the band’s “Chinese Democracy” album sessions.
Since Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan got back together in 2016, Guns N’ Roses have released four songs, the most recent being “The General.” It comes after this year’s “Perhaps” and the 2021 entries “Absurd” and “Hard Skool.” The song was supposed to be released in October as the vinyl B-side of “Perhaps,” however that release date was pushed back.
Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach praised “The General,” citing it as one of his favorite Axl Rose songs, in a 2007 interview. Bach regarded it as Rose’s strongest metal song yet, with loud, piercing vocals and a long, grinding guitar. Bach claims that Rose intended to release it in 2012 on the third record as a part of a trilogy.
