You know when Christmas time is around as you start to hear Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You everywhere in the streets and internet. And certainly, it’s already Christmas time around so, Mariah’s hit track is back once again. Released back in the mid-90s, it took this track over twenty years to reach the no. 1 on the official singles charts of the UK, in 2020.
Furthermore, Mariah’s track conquered the official UK singles charts again this year after dethroning Taylor Swift’s song Anti-Hero.
The most streamed Christmas song in the UK
Although it took Mariah’s “All I Want For Christmas” 26 years to reach number one in the official UK singles charts, it is still the most streamed Christmas song in the UK with 248 million streams with over 10 million streams this week. Moreover, as Christmas is right around the corner, Christmas songs including Last Christmas by Wham and Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran & Elton John are topping the charts.
Billboard reported a few days ago that there are 24 Christmas songs, both old and new, that are listed in the top 40 of the singles chart.
Raye’s track reached second on the chart
Although Christmas songs are conquering the chart even against the biggest singers including Taylor Swift and Anne-Marie. However, there is one artist whose track is now listed second in the UK singles chart. Raye’s newly released single track Escapism turned out to be the best song of her career as it reached the second number in the chart this week.
Raye is a talented artist who has written hit songs for various music artists like Little Mix. Furthermore, she rose to fame after she was featured on David Guetta’s track Stay and Jax Jones’ song You Don’t Know Me.
Unfortunately, Her solo tracks did not perform well, on top of that, she reported last year that her record label was holding her album release. However, now she has given the biggest hit of her music career to date with Escapism released in October this year.
After the massive success of her independently released single track, she told in an interview with BBC, “I feel on top of the world right now, I could throw up. I feel like I’m in a simulation, it doesn’t feel real.”
Furthermore, she also hopes that this song will help people to check out her debut studio album “My 21st Century Blues” which is set to be released in February next year. She said, “It’s my first album, do you know what I mean? It’s been 10 years since I released my first single and finally I get to put a body of work together, I’m really proud of it. It’s a very eclectic fusion of different feelings and sounds. I’m independent now, so I can do what I like.”
Other than Escapism, Christmas songs are topping the chart. As mentioned, Mariah’s Christmas song is number one in the chart, and other than that, Wham’s Last Christmas is in the third position, and similarly, Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s Merry Christmas is positioned fourth.
