If you’re a fan of classic tunes, you’ll probably recognize Simon and Garfunkel’s iconic 1960s folk-rock hit, “The Sound of Silence.” But did you know that Disturbed’s 2015 metal cover gave it a darker, more dramatic twist? Norwegian singer Kristoffer Sørensen certainly drew inspiration from this version when he performed the song on The Voice Norway in 2023.
Nicknamed ‘the singing Viking’ for his commanding presence and versatile voice, Kristoffer quickly won over both the judges and audience. His rendition of “The Sound of Silence” started softly, with just his voice and a gentle piano. His tender vocals captivated everyone, one viewer noting, “He had my attention as soon as he began to sing.”
However, the performance took a powerful turn after the first verse. Rising from his stool, Kristoffer’s voice shifted into a gritty, commanding roar, matched by driving guitars and strings, reminiscent of Disturbed’s heavier version. The audience erupted in applause as he channeled the fierce energy of a Viking, pouring his soul into the performance.
Kristoffer continued to wow the audience with his unique metal-influenced takes on softer songs throughout the competition. His version of Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” transformed the gentle ballad into an intense, symphonic love song, showcasing his signature blend of emotion and power.
With his strong presence and vocal prowess, Kristoffer Sørensen became a standout contestant on The Voice Norway, and it’s no surprise he gained a wave of new fans alongside his band HAVARI.
