Adam Lambert is living his Broadway dream—and taking fans along for the ride. The American Idol alum and Queen frontman has been dazzling audiences as the Emcee in the latest Broadway revival of Cabaret, and on February 10, he brought a taste of that magic to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
With the stage bathed in moody green light, Lambert delivered a soul-stirring rendition of “I Don’t Care Much,” a haunting ballad from the iconic Kander & Ebb musical. Backed by a live band, his velvet-rich vocals filled the room with raw emotion, turning Studio 6B into a scene straight out of Berlin’s shadowy Kit Kat Club. It wasn’t just a performance—it was a moment of pure theater.
Lambert first released the song as a single in December 2024, even filming the music video at the very theater where Cabaret plays nightly. Speaking to The New York Times, Lambert described the song as “a moment of emotional struggle with indifference,” and noted how the creative team adjusted the key to give it that signature torch-song flair.
Taking over the role from Tony-nominated Eddie Redmayne, Lambert has made the Emcee his own—eccentric, magnetic, and deeply human. In a chat with TODAY, he called the role “weird, wild, and wonderful,” sharing how he’d dreamed of playing the character for years. “He’s like a narrator, guiding the audience through a story they don’t expect,” Lambert explained. And with each performance, he pulls the curtain back on a tale of beauty, darkness, and truth.
If you haven’t seen him live yet, time’s running out: Adam Lambert’s final performance in Cabaret will be on Saturday, March 29. After that, Orville Peck steps into the Emcee’s glittering shoes, joined by Eva Noblezada (Hadestown) as Sally Bowles. Their limited run kicks off March 31—and the legacy of Cabaret continues.
