Benjamin Haycock’s blind audition on The Voice UK was unforgettable. With a unique talent and a touching backstory, he took a big risk by performing his own song, “Restlessness.” His exceptional songwriting and distinctive guitar skills amazed all four judges, who quickly turned their chairs to compete for him on their teams.
“Restlessness” is a powerful song blending pop guitar with rap, raw emotion, and a Bob Dylan-like authenticity. Benjamin explained that it was an open letter to his late father, addressing personal struggles.
All four judges, including Tom Jones, will.i.am, Anne-Marie, and Olly Murs, praised Benjamin’s performance. He chose to join will.i.am’s team but was unexpectedly eliminated in the next round, which many felt was too soon.
Before his audition, Benjamin had released an EP called “Time’s Transgression” in 2018. Since appearing on The Voice, he has shared music videos with political messages on his YouTube channel. Songs like “Homeless Winter” and “Force of Nature” highlight social and environmental issues, with the latter being shown in over 1,000 schools.
Benjamin’s music reflects his life in Birmingham and Devon, featuring organic guitar work and eco-friendly themes. His songs have been used in environmental films and exhibitions, including the COP26 Climate Conference. He is a global ambassador for the guitar brand Maton, and his second EP, “Enigma’s Quay,” reached the top 10 on iTunes’ singer-songwriter charts.
