From Arctic Monkeys to Guns N’ Roses, Queens of The Stone Age, and Blondie, Glastonbury 2023 was packed with rock legends on the main stages. But London folk-rock icon Cat Stevens, also known as Yusuf Islam, brought a nostalgic touch from the 60s. His acoustic performance of “Wild World” turned into a laid-back sing-along, now with over 1 million YouTube views!
With his sunburst acoustic guitar, a three-piece band, and five backing singers, Cat created the perfect vibe for Glastonbury’s final day. His peaceful set had the crowd at the Pyramid Stage singing along to his lyrics, a full 53 years after “Wild World” was first written. Fans were amazed that his voice still sounds just as it did when the song hit the charts in 1970.
In a heartwarming moment, Cat Stevens dedicated “Here Comes The Sun” to George Harrison, saying Harrison inspired him and many others to seek light. Cat’s 21-song set also featured hits like “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” “Moonshadow,” and “Morning Has Broken.”
Though he stepped away from the music industry in 1978 after converting to Islam, Cat Stevens proved that his timeless classics still resonate across generations. His Glastonbury performance showed that some songs remain close to fans’ hearts, no matter how much time passes.
